binary/hex in sigs...

just isn't cool. I've seen at least 5 people with various forms of messages encoded in hex and binary in their signatures. while some people may wonder "omg what is that code in their sig??" ... its just stupid. anyone who sees it and knows what it is thinks it is lame, and anyone who doesn't get it right away will never get it

the only fun I get out of it is decoding the entire thing by hand (memorized conversions of hex --> binary--> decimal --> ascii) and it is good practice for a couple classes i'm taking

I figure that most people who put this in their sig do it because they think its some 1337 way to code a message... "omg you're cool"

edit: this post inspired by Muffin

About the only thing you'll accomplish with this is to start another "I can use online binary/text converters better than you" thread.

But, for the record, I agree with you. I just don't really care all that much.

I only put one in mine because everyone was using binary and I thought it was stupid.

Did you read my first one files? The one I was told to change bacause it was too long.

Anyway, I only did it because no one else was doing it in the forums. Now that there are people copying me I need to think of somthing else :D

There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who know binary and those who don't.

Should start doing memory locations. Totally mix it up and let them figure it out.

The most unfunny reply to this topic would be something in hex or binary.

Has this binary/hex trend been seen in other forums, or is the soldat forums just wierd?

I'm sure... The sad part is, not on a programming forum. They take it for granted.

Or perhaps they'd just end up reinforcing each other's belief that, as Famine stated, using binary or hex is somehow elite.

On the other hand, they might not really care whether it's cool or not and just do it because it's as fun as finding a decoder ring in your cereal and teasing your friends with little coded messages that they have to work at to read.

It really isn't that big of a deal in the scheme of things, Flies...

Either that or you wanted to complain about it and then lay back on the familiar "Just causing a comotion, my complaining is actually me being cool by manipulating people" excuse. ;)

Elephant_Hunter could teach you a thing or two about stirring up trouble...

Be more l33t than flies and decode my uber-secret message.

Using technology to help you decode this is totally lame. Take out a pen and paper and utilize those ASCII codes that you memorized in-between reading your complete collection of Encyclopedia Brown books. I promise that you're in for a treat!
