Respawn Polygons!

This would be so damn useful when making maps! Along with the current poly types, there would be "Respawn Players", "Respawn Flags", and "Respawn All". The ones that only respawn flags could either kill the players, or not colide with players.

This idea would prevent the long waits for the flag to be returned after it falls off the map, the long waits for you to respawn after falling off the map, and allow map builders to put deadly bottoms under maps, without having the flag get stuck there. (Think the pit in Voland, except 50 feet down... sucks eh?).

What do y'all think?

here's another idea to compensate:

"sets players on fire" replaces lava.

Dude, me and OoO have used respawn polys (players) for our K_Casino map. It is possible. Just ask OutofOrder ;)

As for the rest, that would be a useful feature.

i guess making uber bouncy polys that blast you out of the map would work...

A) Making bouncy polies is a pain, and they are unstable.
B) They only work for players, no?

gawd how i wouldnt love all these different polly types...the fire polys,bouncy polys, respawn polys, all these things are good.
I would also like to see water in soldat too...which will probably never happen...but oh wells.

it's really a simple idea, and each polygon would only need 2 bytes for poly type:

byte 1
bit 1- respawns players, yes/no
bit 2- respawns flags, yes/no
bit 3- icy, yes/no
bit 4- sets players on fire, yes/no
bit 5- hurts or regenerates
bit 6- deadly or bloody deadly
bit 7- ignore bit 5, yes/no
bit 8- ignore bit 6, yes/no
byte 2
bit 1- collides with player, yes/no
bit 2- collides with corpses, yes/no
bit 3- collides with bullets, yes/no
bit 4- collides with everything else, yes/no
bit 5- empty bit
bit 6- empty bit
bit 7- empty bit

making players respawn? there is a spawnpoint yaknow

same with flags, only if you are stupid enough to make a 50 ft pit for the flag to get stuck in you really need some help.

You are suggesting a polygon that causes a respawn event whenever a person or a flag hits it? Sounds decent.

While were talking about adding polygon functions, how about teleport polygons? Contact with this polygon would transport you to another position on the map (designated the way spawns are). All manner of creative options can be opened up with teleports. If you can define the plys such that they can teleport flags as well, then they would cover all of the functionality that you propose with respawn-polys.

Sure they could, just make the destination of the teleport be the bottom of the abyss. Guaranteed respawn!
