I got attacked by a very large series of ad-ware, spy-ware, viruses, etc, and i'm trying to change everything back to normal. I used Sbybot S & D to get rid of all the lameness, as well as the free trial version of Trend Micro PC-cillin to get rid of some extra lameness.

Now, the viruses and stuff took it upon themselves to change certain things about my computer, most of which i haved changed back (for instance, my desktop wallpaper turned to the color blue) except one thing: My shortcuts.

My desktop icons used to have an invisible textbox, instead of a black one. Also not that there are very ugly black outlines around them (this is most apparent on the recycle bin icon.) I went into performance and maintenence and sniffed around, but i have no clue as to what is wrong.

Help me out, i dislike the ugliness of the black outlines and textbox. Blech.

Note: The picture of the sloth on my desktop was my choice. Sloths are cute as hell.

get Ad-aware if you dont have it. I tested it, and it finds like 30 things even when I ran all my other adware progs

Google is not for porn.
Just format. Fixes everything

Okay.

How do you format? >.<

EDIT: I ran ad-aware, and it found a lot of stuff that Spybot couldn't, but it didn't get rid of the black textboxes/outlines. ;_;

Notice that the ugly outline is where alpha pixels are located. Try changing you monitor to 32 bit color.

1. I tried switching the background, like damnation suggested, but it did not work.

2. My monitor was already at 32 bit color, so i tried switching from 16 bit then back to 32, and it didn't do anything. I don't have 64 bit color support. >.>

Thanks for the help, although it didn't work. IF i knew how to format my computer i would, but alas..
I suck with computers.

When you format your hard dirve again you will delete everything on it. If you do not know anything about computers do not attempt.

Although, that is the only way to get rid of everything that could of gotten into your computer. Then again, thats how I learned the first time. (good old middle school days) Now I re-ghost my hard drive on a regular basis.

what also helps, turning your screen off and on, well, it does with me, but my computer is a bit weird...

Make sure Active Desktop is disabled. Go into Display Properties, Desktop tab. Then go Customise Desktop and go into the Web tab, make sure none of the options are checked. Unless you want them on your desktop, in which case you'll have to live with it.

Or you could just edit your desktop ackground to have a 'sloth at night'...
