My concept is a tad more advanced than PixelNinja's, but he inspired me to send this idea out to you all.

Right now there are two key problems with mods...
1) There is no way to change them in-game.
2) There is no way for the client to verify that it's using the right graphics when joining a server.

To accomplish this, Soldat needs a good way to distinguish amongst full mods. I suggest that the client gathers a checksum, a name and a version number of every installed mod when it is started. When the player chooses to join a server, the client compares that list with the server's mod.

If all the checksums are different then the client looks for an installed mod with the same name, but a lower version. If such a mod exists, the client prompts the player to upgrade.

This way Soldat can be reasonably sure that the client has all the right graphics and load them before joining the server.

If #2 is implemented, then #1 needs to be.
