I've seen a starship trooper partial MOD, and it doesn't look that great. I was wondering if anyone (who is interested in Starship Troopers.. the novel) and is good at making gosteks would like to help put my imagination to work. I want to make a gostek of the suit that the CAP troopers wear, and possibly a gostek of the "bugs" or one of the other enemies described in the book.

As for weapons, the majority of the weapons (that I remember) are flamers and some sort of rocket launcher. I could mod the weaps.ini file and work on some of the weaps interface pics, also.

I'd also like to make a map of the last planet that they were on in the novel.. with that huge radioactive crater, various little holes to pop out of, and an extensive underground tunnel system.. possibly and INF map, with the objective below the surface and the white flag above. Unlimited jets on this map.

So this is what i'm looking for:
- someone who has read the book/knows enough about it
- someone who can mod gosteks
- someone who can make maps

hmm... wasnt there a movie about this book?
if there are pictures of the weapons, i could make interface pics and weapon gfx.

The movie was crap and had nothing to do with the book. The book is intense with moral philosophy as well as action.. nothing better. I've never seen weapons pics.. I've found a few online though (based on the game, not the book.. close enough.) Thing is, they never used rifles or bullets. Everything was rocket launchers of some sort. There was a Y-rack on their back that auto detected targets and launched bombs. They had multiple rocket launchers (that you could make to look like the hk g11.) My idea is that instead of firing bullets, they will all fire m79, cluster or regular grenades.. just at different speeds, and with different power to them, depending on the weapon. So a pistol shot would be a grenade, but would barely affect the enemy. The grenades would look kind of plasmay.

How about gosteks? Do you do those? This gostek is a big purple/blue suit that looks like a gorilla.

I'd love to have you work on it, though. I've seen your work, and I love it.

hmm... looks nice. i think i could make the weapons but the mapping part... i guess soulsnipa or viggo or geo could do that. i've only made 3 maps and they are quite simple : P

i'll start on the weapons when ill get my mod finished ; )

I'll work on a few different weapons.ini mods for it. Let me know of your selection for each replacement so I can update weaps.ini accordingly. Also, I might work on a configurer.. I've never made one, but it can't be that hard. Just a little VB6.

[EDIT: Now we just need a map maker and a gostek maker. If interested, please repsond.]

The movie was better than the game. I like the idea of seeing the bugs as enemies though.

Book > Movie > Game.. thats the CoC

Also, I was thinking that we could either make the regular bullets look like plasmaish things (similar to your gundam3.0 mod) or make the weapons fire weaker m79 rounds. Changing the bullet shape/color would give us more customizability. I'm at school, so I'll test my weap mods at home.

I could make a map sort of like a scene I remember in the movie (it's the only part I remember). Where they're in this bunker thing and there's all aliens coming and flying bugs. It'll probably look nothing like the scene but it would suit the mod. Well, I'm going to make that and if you don't want it for the mod, I'll just post it in new maps (in the new forums).

I know it doesn't have tunnels and I still have to make it more like another planet but is it sort of what you're after?

Doesn't look like what I had in mind, bit it's still a nice map so far. Here's what I'm looking for:

Edit: I know it's small. The green is tunnels, the red, orange, and yellow kill a soldat gradually (from yellow, least - red, most). White flag on top, black underneath. Unlimited jets. Red spawns up high with no chute, blue spawns low in tunnels.

Okay, I'm making it now, just a question, are those tunnels very big? I have at about four gosteks high at the moment. I can make them bigger or smaller if you want, I want to know before I add sceneries. Thanks.

edit: ...and what do you want the colouring to be?

i like the shading on the rocks in that map, but the base looks ugly. Good luck and sorry lunatic, I'm nt really making maps anylonger.

Yeah, the base wasn't finished in that screenshot. I've finished that map now and the base has more detail. I might release it but it doesn't have very good gameplay.

Lunatic Cow, I'm going to make the tunnels vary throughout the map so don't worry about that other question unless I've got the scale completely wrong.

They aren't that big.. maybe a soldat and a half high.. no room to jet, barely enough room to walk. The openings should be huge, though.

As for colorings.. a purple/blue/grey color slightly more dull than these forums' background with more shading and grey/purple in it.

I'm not sure about the spawn points and there will be a little more smoothing of the poly edges. Scenery isn't in it yet as you can see but I want to make sure you're happy with the colours before I continue. I'm thinking of making that block into a spaceship (the one that the flag is sitting on). Hope it's sort of what your after.

maybe have some doesnt collide polys on top of some tunnels so tat its kind of like when the ground gives way when you walk on top of it. This would also work well with zombies posing as the bugs. The map looks good I am a big fan of starship troopers and look forward to the completion of the mod and the map.

The map looks amazing.. just a few suggestions:

- keep all of the low blue team spawn points, loose the ones that are high up.
- spread out the red spawn points across the entire map.. even over the red zone, and no parachutes
- if you could, make some more extensive and widing tunnels that are thinner and a lot longer/curving
- also, make sure that the parts to the left and right of the red zone are also radioactive (in the curve) and that it is less powerful than the center of the crater
- make the spaceship/rock that the white flag is on a health poly
- finally, make the map more curved so it looks like a planet. Maybe even make it an entire planet and have.. OH CRAP, NEW IDEA

Ok.. make an entire planet, and have tunnels leading in all over the map (including on the bottom since the jets are unlimited)

Alright.. sorry about this, I think this map will be amazing if you complete it though. You have my thanks. Note that on the map, the brown paths are tunnels.. but don't make them exactly like that. make them winding and branching off, etc. If you can make a big "scenery" brain with an ants body near the black flag, i'd appreciate that too.

This map should be huge. blue spawn points should be in the insides, but not near the flag.

Nice.. dont forget to make the top right crater "Radioactive." And no chutes, unlimited jets, and spawns above the whole planet.

For improvements.. maybe stretch out that background circle so that it covers the entire background of the planets tunnels. How much harder would it be to make those tunnels really winding? Looks pretty good. I think I'm going to learn to make maps now..
