(~ = infinity)

1\3 = 0.3333333~

0.33333~ * 3 = 0.9999999~

1\3 * 3 = 1

therefore 1 = 0.99999999~

damn you both

infinity = v^n + .9999999~

v = number variable

n = exponent (make it high)

25 = 1!!!

100 / 4 = 25, 25 / 25 = 1!! THEREFOR, 25 = 1 accordian to freudian mathematics. And Freud didn't do maths, did he? Exactly.

Whats teh value of teh value in teh brackets? Answer plzz

KamikazeDuck
May 22, 2006, 12:58 pm
0.33333... = [1] = y
[1]x10 = 10y = 3.3333...
10y - y = 3.3333... - 0.3333...
9y = 3

y = 3/9

y = 1/3

Therefore 0.3333... or 0.3333~ is equal to 1/3

and 0.3333... x 3 = 0.9999...
while 1/3 x 3 = 1

Edit: People say infinity is so close to one that it may as well be one but if you think about it, infinity, although close, can't be exactly one, can it? If something was shot into the universe, it would be travelling forever from what I understand so that something would (although moving at an unbelievably small amount - the smallest unit of measure possible) be going off course. Hmm...

what

anyway

[url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof_that_0.999..._equals_1"]0.999? equals 1, not approximately but exactly. More precisely, the standard real number represented by 0.999? (where the 9s recur) is exactly equal to the standard real number 1.

Because I have nothing else to do, I'll do what noobface did but less insulting.

25 = 1/4 of 100
1 = 1/4 of four
25 * 2 = 50
1 * 2 = 2
Thus, two = 50.

100(#1) is not 4(#2)
while,

1\3 = 1\3 of 1 (whole) - result #1
0.3333~ = 1\3 of 1 (whole) - result #2

1(#1), is indeed 1(#2)!

see the difference ?

I discussed this with my friend in 6th grade. We concluded that 0.999~ is indeed equal to one.

Then why is 0.999 0.999?

thekingkitty
May 22, 2006, 10:31 pm
can't we just round it up to 1?

FliesLikeABrick
May 22, 2006, 11:06 pm
saying that "0.9999~ rounds up to 1" does not mean that 0.9999~ = 1. It means that "0.9999~ rounds up to 1"

Uh, infinity is not close to 1 at all. In fact, it is infinetly not close to 1.

Yeah, that's what I think, but others think I have no argument and that it is definitely 1.
