Central FL. I wont advise coming to Disney this summer. Hurricane season has officially started :). Come down during tourist season, we always love stalking, killing and eating snow birds!

First thing. Make sure you hard drive is firmly connected to the motherboard. After that doesn't work, go into the BIOS setup tool (CMOS). Look for something like "CONFIGURE". There should be something listed as your :/C Drive or HARD DRIVE. Use AutoDetect. If it doesn't recognize a hard drive at all, go to "ADVANCE FEATURES" (or where ever the boot preferences are). Tell the BIOS to boot to your :/D Drive (CD Drive). Insert whatever operating system you want (Windows XP I assume). When the computer boots, pay attention because it will probably ask you to hit a key to begin booting to the CD. When that starts, see if you can reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. However, this means all your previous data will be erased.

If then, this doesn't work, or during Auto Detect it never recognized a hard drive, then it's most likely dead. When you have a dead hard drive like this, throw it out, buy a new one and start all over again by installing an operating system. Just shell out $50 for a new 80 GB hard drive. They're so cheap these days. It will save yourself time and a headache.

Hitting your computer at the side works also.

i only have one hard drive.

If you only have one hard drive and your computer is letting you boot (that is, you're on it now), then your computer is detecting your drive fine. Unless perhaps it's partitioned, and you can't locate one of those partitions?
