[b] Does anyone have any tips on how to lower your ping?

i have a satelite connection which goes over my modem, but ma ping is still like 700 which makes my sniper skills not very useful

Connection by a modem sux ass I have it also, if you could get DSL or Cable or any other broadband type of internet connection you wouldn't have that high ping.

Closing browser windows won't help, cause they are not requesting information from the net (except if youre downloading of course) also close all messenger programs and take a server close to you.
I have aDSL and always getting ping round 70 :D

T3 isn't an ISP :P
But it is a damn fast connection.

I have cable, and I can rarely get a ping lower than 100. I think it's only happened on Sabot's, when there were very few people.

BTW, is satellite not somewhat faster on average than the standard 56k modem? I remember it being advertised around here as about 4x faster, not really too much better, but still faster.

my ping is usually 400-500, 64k broadband, very slow!
but when i off programs like izq, msn, etc, even anti virus, the ping goes down to 250+

i tryed all of those things but they don't help much, i guess it stops it from lagging.
and about ADSL how much does it cost u guys?

my ping normally stays bout 600-700

my ping goes between 120 to 400
400 on a bad BAD day....on ZT hell
120 - 240 is usually on rotmos|swe, 2wai server, and mat's.

having a low amount of 'hops' between u and the server can definitly lower ur ping... ie if you live in aussie dont try a server in america and vise versa

i just thought there was maybe some easy way to just lower your ping. and there is Get bloody caple, ADSL or T3

A 'hop' basically means that your computer goes through one computer to another to get to its destination.

I just suck too much so I have to play on my serv to get a wonderping like 0-16 ping :D

ideea: if u got low pings everywhere look for someone close to host your serv, or u try to host it (for me definetly works, even running 2 soldats on the same machine with a duron@1300 with 256mb ram, I rarely get complaints of the speed only if my damn modem goes down for 10-15minutes)

I close everything on my Athlon XP 1800+ 512 MB RAM pc with cable connection just for fun...I get pings around 66 on most good servers. Sometimes, you need to be on a good server like USA-Sabots to get good pings...a T3 will make anyone seem fast. :)

I have ADSL and a crappy computer, only about 56 megs of RAM >_<!! My ping usually stays about 100 to 260, and my FPS count never goes over 50. When I get my new computer, my problems will be solved (hopefully).

i have a crap comp AND connection but imgetting a new comp soon but
its still not THAT good (501 MHZ 192MB Ram)

I don't think I've seen my ping go past 300, and it's usually around 150 actually. It would be devestating to for some reason be forced back to a dial-up connection. I got EXTREMELY sick of listening to it, waiting for it, and then having to wait even longer to do anything once I actually get connected.

well i am beein tortured wif ma satelite, trust me it's not as fast as u think it would be and for some reason it doesn't seem to have any effect on when i play soldat online. If i connect ova my 56k modem it have the same ping as if i connect over the satelite. I don't know why it doesn't make a difference. In kazaa i see the difference because i download up to 100kbs but on soldat it's the same. Does Anyone know Why?

Everything that sucks in my computer is my modem.

Playing Soldat at the minimum settings lowers your ping. The reason why ping in Soldat is so high is because the net code isn't optimized. That's why you can get less ping in a graphics intensive game such as Unreal than you would in Soldat.

Right Striker, also, you can turn off music and get the distant battle/explosion effect off to reduce lag and frame leaks....

i got absoulotely nothing wrong with my ping in soldat even though my cable has transformed into a 28k modem because me and my brothers and sister(networked together) have gone over the farged up download limit which is 3 fargin gigabytes a month which is [:-censored]. It used to be 18gegabytes and it dropped to 3 how lame. So i get my cable to run like a 28k modem for a month pffttt....
who ever lives in Australia in Sydney here, would know the conection called Optus farg it .

A satellite internet connection is good for downloading files and such, but for playing ping-intensive games, it's crap. The reason for that is because the signal has to go to and from the satellite, causing the unfixable ping problem. As far as my connection goes, I have ADSL, and I download at speeds of up to 164kbps [:D] The ping really depends on the server most of the time. When I'm lucky I come across a nice server with 33-50 ping or so. That's very infrequent, though, sadly. On average my ping runs around 133-250.

So if you could change to ADSL or Cable, that would be much better. It's even cheaper than satellite. Last I checked satellite costs about $70 per month, compared to ADSL running about $50.

But then you may have ADSL inavailabiltiy issues, in which case, I pity you, heh.

but i have no SOldat on it so im planning to see
if my ping is as high as my old one

Old Comp - 350 MHZ 64 MB RAM
New Comp - 501 MHZ 192 MB RAM

Just close EVERYTHING aside from Soldat. lol

Not necessarily everything, just ones who use your connection, example: downloads, uploads, KAZAA GODDAMNIT!, windows updates...

Enything that uses your conection will cause you lag while you play, but pages that are already loaded will not slow you down, because you are no longer downloading the page, so its safe to keep the internet explorer open if your on a page and not moving.....

To get low ping find server close to your home....i have cable n my friend has cable, we live like 40 minute walk and the avg ping is like 33

I have ADSL connection and sometimes I get 500 ping. Humm, I think is because I connect from Spain.

I don't know where that USA-Sabots server is, but it must be very very close to me....

I get 0-16 ping the whole game!

I shut down AIM, MSN messenger, Kazaa Lite, etc. when I play....

I have a fast connection and a fast PC, but I still do that to get the best ping possible.

when you get high ping it could be that someone has dial up but then they say they have like broadband and fast pc they usually live at the other side of the world

I have cable and i close all my other programs and I still get 100-300 or sometimes 400 ping... its horrible... my internet and downloads go fast and when I check my speed it looks great but when Im playing my ping is always above 120 or so...

Hmmm...are you behind a router or anything? Sometimes that can screw it up a little....Also, as was said a while back, the server could be a cause of the problem. There are many factors to try to determine a problem with the internet, and it may take you a while to finally figure out what is wrong.....

i got a halfway good pc (1gb and 446mb of ram) and broadband @615kb/s and my average pings about 100-400 i dont run any mesage programs or any p2p stuff like kazzar or winmx when im playing
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME i think soldat just hates me :(
but i cant stop playing it :)
