Mirrors needed

I'm looking for people who can provide mirrors for Soldat. From all over the world as possible.

So if you are interested in helping the Soldat community, please e-mail me (michalm@poczta.fm) with the subject line "Mirror". Please add your contact information, the site where you will be hosting the file and the country where it will be placed.

Don't do this if you have some cap on your traffic, or if you get charged for excessive traffic.
Soldat is 9MB and always has thousands of downloads.

Believe me, Michal knows what he's talking about.
I once hosted Soldat (I think it was 1.1.0) and after about 1-2 days my traffic limit of 1GB was exceeded by about 500MB.

So.. Soldat is very popular :)

Btw, my account was suspended for one month hehe..

No no! Please host! But first check how much traffic you're allowed to use.

My problem was I was on top of the list so more people downloaded from my mirror :)

Maybe wait 2 days so you're at the end of the list ^^

All you have to do is changing the filename of the files pretty often...Then they won't see if you exceed the limit or not (A admin on my serverhost told me that)

CbbLe I think you're wrong. This MIGHT work on SOME servers, but most of them log the traffic "overall" not just on specific file names..

And changing the filename 2 times a day and telling Michal the new link would not be that much fun..

Maybe he finds a big hoster like some download archives!

what about using the edonkey/emule network?
the more ppl having the file, the more sources for download, no traffic limit, worldwide spread...

I'm sharing the 1.1.3 version (I just added it to my shared folder).

ed2k://|file|soldat.113.shareware.homepage.-.soldat.cyberion.pl.zip|9242274|67e17d9c9bc253c4a330af7b0334d9a9|/

Just use that inside a normal link, and it'll be opened by anybody having edonkey/emule installed. it's the most used p2p network, and everybody downloading the file, even if they doesn't have it complete, becomes a source for other users.

I think that using p2p combined with "normal" mirrors would be a great idea. With some text like "Please, if you're using the p2p network emule/edonkey use the elink provided instead of the common mirrors".

That would limit the charge to standard mirrors greatly :)

BTW, a search for "soldat", with a filesize between 7 and 12mb (to avoid other things appearing) produced several results on the emule network, from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 and others without any info about what version they are.

If ppl downloading it from a standard mirror adds it to the shared folder of the p2p network, you can get more sources really fast. Once there're enough sources on the p2p network sharing the file, more and more ppl will choose to download from the p2p rather than from the mirrors...

i think @helpman is right . soldat should be 'distributed' :) in p2p systems too, and information about this 'form' of download (with link to file - for edonkey p2p) should be placed on soldat homepage .

... i checked now in my emule and i found that soldat is popular file with many sources :)

TheKnightoftheMare

but p2p is full of trojans and other stuff.

N1nj@
June 11, 2003, 3:32 pm
yup, so tru. i say we stayed at the normal links...

helpman
June 11, 2003, 3:34 pm
if you download something without checking what the *** are you downloading, it's your fault, not p2p's fault :)

if you can see here an elink to the right file, that's the file you'll download, no trojans, no viruses. if somebody changes the file, it has a different hash and you won't download the changed file clicking on a good link. if you just use the search option inside emule and tempt your luck... that's another thing...

let's see an example:

you can see 2 files on the results (you DIDN'T check if there's an elink here, you DIDN'T check file comments, you just searched using the search engine inside of the emule client)
file 1 has the name "soldat 1.1.3.zip", 8,80 mb, 45 sources
file 2 has the name "soldat 1.1.5 full 3d and cracked", no matter the size, let's say 10 sources.

If you downloaded file 1, you probably have what you looked for.
If you downloaded file 2, you probably have a fake/trojan/virus and a strong feeling of stupidity...

And if you mean p2p clients have trojans/viruses/spam, etc, emule doesn't have any :p

So, before downloading anything too good to be real, think a bit and always check that's exactly what you're trying to download :)

For emule/edonkey users: this is an elink to the 1.1.4 version. There're not many sources now, but in a couple days there'll be many many more :)

ed2k://|file|soldat114.zip|9667091|bf7f8568a9f697c900cd178dda1dfb3f|/

(this in case you want to add it into a normal html link)<a <a href="ed2k://|file|soldat114.zip|9667091|bf7f8568a9f697c900cd178dda1dfb3f|/">soldat114.zip</a><a href="ed2k://|file|soldat114.zip|9667091|bf7f8568a9f697c900cd178dda1dfb3f|/">soldat114.zip</a>
