well what happens is this....... when i try to play soldat i can get in to the first part where you setup your game etc. fine, although it won't play the first movie if i turn it on, anyway once i say start game, it goes into the first screen where you see the part where you can buy weapons and it completely freezes. i have tried altering every option in the setup of soldat and tryed putting my graphics performance up and down and resolution and bit rate but it still makes no difference. i would be greatful for any help.

First standard questions:

Do you have DirectX 9.0b?
DirectX 9.0b - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=141D5F9E-07C1-462A-BAEF-5EAB5C851CF5&displaylang=en

Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card?
nVidia - http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
ATI - http://mirror.ati.com/support/driver.html

When you say "although it won't play the first movie if i turn it on" - do you mean that it freezes as it does when you try to start a game?

The problem is most likely your graphics card.

"Do you want to know what it is?"

The matrix is everywhere, it is all around.... oh right the graphics card....

Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Display

Then click on the 'Settings' tab (top right of the display window)

Somewhere (roughly half way down) it will tell you what graphics card you have running on what monitor you have.
