how do i host a game server thru a network (ICS)? i have this problem with every game i play, i can never host.

here is the situation:

i m using the ICS (internet connection sharing) function that was installed on my computer with my Window ME CD.

i am using the computer A (main) and i have two adapters with it. one connectting to my cable modem and the other connects to computer B.

and computer B has one adapter which is connected to my pc.

hope you get what i m saying and please help me.

So I take it you didn't have a go with the ICS rule files that I pointed you off to the last couple of times you posted about this?

okay, first off, you asked this question a while ago and I told you that ICS is the biggest load of crap =P

but, if you insist on using it, go here and download the ICSconfig.

when you have that installed, goto the ports tab and route the soldat ports [23073, 23083] to your host computer.

there you are.

if this doesn't work, goto the official microsoft ics routing page and to it manually, but all the ICSconfig does, is configure that file, so you shouldn't have a problem with that....

if this doesn't work come backntr tell me that i suck and what went wrong =P

--edit:

heres another helpful site

type: TCP

click 0001
click New Port

click New Port

click 0003

this should work.

k. thanks i will try that now.

after i did that, i press the "set" button right?

and then it tell me to restart ICS, how do i do that?

i just restarted my computer for that. anyway. i told someone to try to join the server, they say they see it on the lobby, but it has a ??? ping and can't connect.

k scratch that out...anyway, now it finally works and poeple can join thru lobby...but the problem is that it doesnt register on ASE for some reason and i checked the Register on ASE in the config.

ASE uses ports 27243-27245, with UDP and TCP, so you need to add those with the ICSconfig

DNA.styx

(would you not need to forward the ICMP port as well so that pings could get through?)

N1nj@

so toadsmoke, do i do this with the ICSconfig for ASE

click New Map
IP: type in the internal IP of the computer running the soldat server
Name: Ase

click 0000
click New Port
port: 27243
translation: NORMAL
type: TCP

click 0001
click New Port
port: 27244
translation: NORMAL
type: TCP

click 0002
click New Port
port: 27245
translation: NORMAL
type: TCP

click 0003
click New Port
port: 27243
translation: NORMAL
type: UDP

click 0004
click New Port
port: 27244
translation: NORMAL
type: UDP

click 0005
click New Port
port: 27245
translation: NORMAL
type: UDP

and what about what DNA.styx said?

toadsMoke
August 18, 2003, 6:40 am
ya, what you have is correct.

styx, i'm not sure which ports that includes exactly. do you mean forward port 0-38? if not, i wouldn't mind a lesson to better understand icmp... i've always found it quite confusing... silly internet architecture =P

N1nj@
August 18, 2003, 4:50 pm
k. i will do that now...so what do i do with the icmp stuff that DNA.styx said?

Is the gateway machine XP? Is so you may be enable 'pings' like this:link

N1nj@
August 19, 2003, 3:36 pm
hmm...i dont know is my gatewap machine XP...how do i check?

and i did all that stuff toadsmoke told me and it works...the only problem is that when i make a dedicated server and i want to join it on the same computer...it doesn't let me...it just keeps saying "requesting game..."

and thanks for all the help.

XP is a windows version. like winME, win98, win2000.... winXP.
yours is winME.

try connecting to: localhost or 127.0.0.1

either of those should work for connecting to yourself.

If everything works as is, don't worry about it N.

N1nj@
August 20, 2003, 2:56 pm
ya everything works and i can join my own dedicated server...but would the ICMP stuff you mention would decrease the ping?

DNA.styx
August 20, 2003, 3:07 pm
nope, it will not decrese the ping.

N1nj@
August 20, 2003, 5:00 pm
i mean decrease as in improve....if not...what will the ICMP do?

--text from double post:

hmm....it doesnt always work...like for some poeple, they cannot join my server

toadsMoke
August 24, 2003, 6:13 pm
if they are also behind a router, it will sometimes not work. especially if one of your routers has a data translator ...

N1nj@
August 24, 2003, 11:10 pm
that guy doesnt have a router...

toadsMoke
August 24, 2003, 11:35 pm
Well, it is possible he has a firewall or some other internet security that interferes with the connection. If you really want that guy to play, get him to post there with his network setup etc and we may be able to determine and fix the problem.

N1nj@
August 25, 2003, 2:57 pm
i dont really want him to play, its just that some people can join, and some poeple can't. it just a little bit fusturating.
