I have a suggestion that a note bout posting screenies on forum should pref. be done in GIF format.. Its Good Quality and bout as big as JPG.. most of the JPG images U cant read the names.. Or atleast its poorly ! So Since Most ppl prolly read rules / FAQ some time in theire life time (or should..) I Think a note bout this should be added..

I totally do NOT agree with you.
Gifs are alright for images with few colours (

"Use JPEG for complex pictures. Gif for more basic stuff."

I knew that.. And I also Knew that the Compress levle is deffined by user.. But.. I Think The Gif Screenies are better then the Jpg.. IMO Soldat Screenies Arnt THAT detailed that U cant Use Gif..

I'd still use JPG for Soldat :P
Anyways, I think there should be a note that goes something like that:
"Screenshots are not to be posted in bitmap or any other un-compressed format. Jpeg, Gif and Png are preferrably choices. Before uploading it, check if the user is able to see what he's supposed to see."

Well, whether you want to use GIFs or JPGs, make sure of one thing: NEVER SAVE THEM WITH PAINT! Paint Saves jpgs to, like, the lowest quality, and saves gifs with a global palette without even considering what the colors in the image are. The GIMP is a good alternative, but you have to dowload the LZW libraries to save GIFs. As long as you save them to a decent quality, the screens won't have a chronic case of unreadable name syndrome :/

I think it is for the best if we all keep our screenies BELOW 100KB! lol

That's WAY too big!

http://www.angelfire.com/sd2/nightcabbage/Cabbage11.jpg

That's 37KB and you can clearly see EVERY pixel ^_^

'Compression is an art, and an art worth your learning' - lol

Remember, you can use pallets, quality levels, encoding methods, etc.

That's what I do, Night Cabbage, but tell this all these newbies that only know paint :)

lolz

oh, and it's one word ^^

heh

and just so you all know, when you're compressing a jpg, to make the names stand out more, change the Component Sampling to YUV 111, instead of YUV 122 (eg. default to none - none is good in this case)

results both at 85% quality (straight from screen cap):

YUV 122:
40.9 KB

YUV 111:

56.46 KB

Note the bottom one is MUCH easier to read...
