I was thinking about wich console to buy if I get around to it?
Xbox: benefits - best gfx (arguable)
PS2: benefits - DVD player (I don't have DVD player yet)
Gamecube: benefits - to be honest, I don't see any....
Well, u guys tell me..?

Well erm.. I have my reasons wich I won't release but I can't upgrade the PC I use, if anything I would buy a new PC... I've studied and the best deal I can find is a $700 - $1020 Setup wich is very much up to date with hardware. But I'm far from that amount of cash :P

I have a PS2 and personally I like it a lot better than GC or X-Box for several reasons.
1) Selection. PS2 has those two systems beat hands down for 2 VERY good reasons. One it's been around longer (so duh, hehe) and two PS1 games work on the PS2... this makes it so you can go down to Gamestop and buy old PS1 games and play them ^_^. I just bought Metal Gear Solid for $10, life is gooood.
2) Games. The PS2 has a vast library of great games, whereas the other two systems have at most 4 or 5 key games.
3) The Future. Eventually the PS3 will come out, and Sony plans to make it so it'll play games from it's two predesesors. So I'll still be able to play MGS on my PS3 ^_^
--------------------------
Granted X-Box and GC have some advantages as well.
GC has some certain licences that are AWSOME. Most notably for me is Super Smash Bros.
X-Box is just bloody powerful (and expensive). So it's got the up on the graphics and what have you. However I've noticed a trend in some X-Box games where they suffer from the problem of the licence taking away from the quality of the game. For example Enter the Matrix. Granted it sucked on every system, the X-Box seems to have a greater percentage of games that fall into this catagory. Just opinion, and as such I could be horribly wrong.
I havn't played XB or GC enough to really make a valid judgement. But I'm very happy with my PS2. And my GBA ^_^.
I think I'll hack soldat so it can be played on GBA over link cable

First, you CAN run DVDs on X-Box too.
Anyway, i know i am gonna be bashed, but..... All console games are dumb arcades, dont waste your money.
Having said that, i will continue. Here are some pros and cons for each system.
X-Box is more powerful than ps2. It has alot more potential than PS2. It is basically a *computer* that you buy for some $150 dollars. Thats a con for X-Box
PS2 has a larger selection of games, and supposedly "better" games. Yes, some very good games that came out on PS2 did not come out on X-Box.
GC..... I dont see any reason why you should buy GC. Well if you like DOnkey Kong and Zelda, the system is for you. Otherwise, dont waste your money
Ok, and one more thing. DO NOT EVER BUY AN X-BOX. EVER! Why?! Didnt Bill Gates rip you off enuff??? Do you really want to spend some more money to fill his pockets? I dont think so, so go with the PS2.

My views (I have a Gamecube)
Xbox - Powerful, and good games. Extreme memory storage - you can record music to its memory and play it back at will without the CD. Has a DVD player, and you can buy a remote control for it at extra cost.
Gamecube - Same power as Xbox, and has THE BEST controllers (you can't argue with this if you have tried a GC control...they are PERFECT). Also, Nintendo claims that the GC uses some sort of revolutionary graphics engine (what this is I haven't a clue, and Nintendo may be lying, but I can say that GCs give the most rounded graphics I've seen on a console).
PS2 - Less power than the other two, but, as already said, has a vast library of games, however, in my opinion these games don't compare to Xbox games - except the ones that are released on both. Includes DVD player (don't need to buy a playback kit like the Xbox), and you can play PS1 games on it.
Prices are generally, from lowest to highest, GC, PS2, Xbox.
On the subject of newer releases - Nintendo are bringing their next console out in 2005(Did I get this right..?), and Microsoft are doing a new Xbox, which is virtually the same except smaller. Sony are doing the PS3 soon.

Well, originally I wanted to get a PS2, but then I played Smash bros. Melee on a gamecube kiosk thingy, and from that moment on, I HAD TO HAVE A GAMECUBE!
Seriously.
And you'll notice that the PS2 has only 2 controller slots, if that matters any.

dude, obviously your insane or smokin something, gamecube doesnt have nearly the same graphics capability that Xbox does, and i have a ps2 and ive played gamecube a lot (other ppls houses yada yada) and i do prefer the PS2 controller, although people are saying that the Xbox Controller S is much better
anyways, back to the gfx thing, lets take a look see at screens from all 3 systems shall we?
here we have the Xbox shooter Timesplitters 2
[IMAGE]
now for PS2 shooter Timesplitters 2
[IMAGE]
and finally for the Gamecube version

ok, so now you can make your own decision whcih is better and such, o, and be thankful i used timesplitters 2 as the game, i coulldve given Xbox Halo and if you think gamecube is as good as that well...theres a problem somewhere :P

Well, first of all I'd like to say PC ROCKS! lol
But I know you can't do that so i'll start talking about consoles :)
GameCube - Sorry Stalky - the GC is roughly equivilent with the PS2 (a little better) but much lower than the XBox. Basically unless you want to play Smash Bros then don't bother. lol It's not a bad machine (equiv with PS2) but... yea...
PS2 - Too old and crap to even bother thinking about. Worst graphics of the 3 consoles.
PS3 will be backwards compatible, however the XBox 2 will also be able to un XBox games.
XBox - Much better graphics. Basically every game that comes out on PS2 is coming out on XBox now.
Buy the DVD kit. Buy Halo. Buy Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball... erm hang on a minute thats not right... lol
But seriously, buying a PS2 would be like buying an old crappy 400MHz compy with a VooDoo2... w00t...
So the end verdict - buy an XBox. But not that crappy Hulk pack rofl...
I've seen them all. I've played the same games on all three. The XBox looks better. The days of the PS2 are over...
But aside from the power factor, it's just different people's opinions :)
I'm unbiased coz I think they all suck ahahhahahah.

DUDE U GOTTA BE CRAZY TO RULE GC OUT! its got the FUNEST GAMES! FUNEST, maybe not the most but most of their games are very good. And i've never had more fun playing games. I mean here are some of the rock solid GC games;
Super Smash Bros Melee (DUH)
Zelda Windwaker
Resident Evil
Resident Evil zero
Super Monkey Ball 2 (U FLAMe THIS I KILL U, Funnest time playing this at parties)
Metroid Prime
Animal Crossing (AGAIN this game is highly addictive, give it 2 days and u'll be playing this 12/7, the other 12 hours u'll be dreaming about the future of ur town)
Mario Party 4 (Super fun at parties, What more can i say it's mario party)
Mario Golf Toadstool Tour(OMFG THIS IS A GREAT GAME! JESUS U GOTTA TRY IT!)
F-ZERO GX (Just got this and can't stop playing. Like u would going 1500 km, and u feel like ur going that speed too)
Soul Calibur 2 (i no its multi-platform but the special charactar is LINK! NOBODY BEATS LINK!)
Ok well these are only some of the games i have and im sure there's plenty more rock solid FUN games.
Now for PS2, WOW its got alot of games. Alot of games that are boring and will keep u entertained for about 5 mins. Then u would rather slit ur throat and jump into a den filled with teletubbies.
U can play PS1 games! OMFG r u kidding me. U can buy PS1 for like 10 bucks. Y would u ever wanna play those filthy PS1 games? theres like 2 Decent ones.
PS2 has 2 slots. Obviously they didn't think as many as 3 people would play their totally crapptacular game.
Now X-BOX, even less good games then PS2 which is utterly pathetic. I mean u've got Halo and Halo 2. First off Halo got boring and fast. The AI Was ridiculous. Then Halo 2 looks actually ok but thats 1 game.
The Summery of X-BOX would be well...its a crappy computer.
i STRONGLY suggest buying GC cuz basicly it brings the most fun. And isn't that what games are about?

well, for the money that these consoles cost, if your computer has an AGP port, you can load it up with a radeon 9600 pro that has QUITE a lot of power (much more so than the xbox), and that still leaves you with a nice computer that you've grown all intimate and stuff with... nevermind that.

Blade, what the f^ck are you talking about man?? X-Box has much more power than GC, and alot of games that you can play on parties, ever heard of Fusion Frenzy? I dont actually play video games at parties, but i guess its fun
Blade, why would you say that PS2 and PS1 has crappy games?? It has the BEST games dude. If you like Zelda and [:-censored]ing Donkey KOng, get yourself Nintendo GC. Otherwise forgetaboutit
I would go with an X-box, but i am not willing to pay Bill GAtes any more money, and i dont play gay consoles. Other than that, you have all the facts Mossy

ALRIGHT ALRIGHT, listen to a guy who as all three consoles [8D](me).(including GBA :P)
They all are very good, but in different reasons, i agree with, whomever before me about the xbox being more powerful then GC. And of course the Ps2, but theres no doubt, you will have more fun with the PS2, playing MG, and a new one that is supposed to come out soon, as well as GTA, Tenchu, DMC[:D], and several GREAT PS2 games....save your money afterwards and get a xbox, having all 3 ROCK!, but i do not play as much as i used to, only reason why i bought GC was for yes SUPER SMASH BROS! that game ownz ALL PARTY GAMES/ ACTION. Xbox = halo, GC= super smash Bros, Ps2= every game thats on the shelf pretty much, they all rock [^]

And to the one who took the photos of three consoles. The photo made to the PS2 is worst than the others, you cannot compare them at that way.

If I'm remembering correctly, GC and XBox > (own0rz) PS2. GC and XBox are BOTH 256 bit (which is THE SAME for those who can't do maths) while the PS2 is a measly 128 bit. And anyone who compares SSBM to Halo is a tard. Microsoft are into doing realistic graphics, while Nintendo are (and always will be) cell shading and cartoony graphics, which because of the simple colours, become really good in the shape and smoothness.
*spanked*
Also, GC gives much better multiplayer fun. I can play Halo, or UT2k3 for about 20 minutes without getting bored. I can play Smash Bros and own for EVER. Its so much more fun.
TIR_Blade
August 30, 2003, 4:26 pm
OMG whats with u people u took the words right outta my mouth :D Also, realistic games are good and all that for not very long. When u realize that the makers where concentrating more on the graphics then the gameplay and u see what the game has become (more of a movie than a game) u will realize what im talkin bout. Most of the X-Box games are either multi-platform/or on Computer which looks better. So again don't waste your money on PS2. Also PS1 SUCKED ass. so y would any1 wanna play those games? o and fusion frenzy is one of those cheap rip offs that failed. It sux in every aspect and is a downgrade from mario party 1.

PS2: for those who want an entertainment system[see DVD player] and the crappiest [in terms of processing power] of the 2nd gen consoles [after all it was released about a year earlier than the box or gc]. Good selection of games and third party developers.
XBOX: for the stylistically challenged the XBOX features the most horrid controllers and a bulky boX to boot. Internet connectivity a plus. Buy this if you want to play Halo [soldat's much better]
NGC or GCN: Now you're talking. The only console that's ONLY A GAMES CONSOLE and nothing but. The fact that Ninty is behind this and supplies some of the best exclusive titles that r guaranteed fun is enough to buy this one. I could go on about the cube but i guess i'm a nintendo fan boy so i'll stop :p

Zelda
Mario Sunshine
Super Smash Bros.
^ those alone make the gamecube the best, for me anyway. The GC and PS2 just have more games that I like.
The only game I liked on the XBOX was HALO and that will be out on the PC in the Fall so I wont need one to play it. Have you guys seen the screens shots? Halo 1 for the PC looks like Halo 2 on the XBOX (ok maybe not, but its close). Halo for the PC also will have MOD SUPPORT! What XBOX game can boast that? None.
Brake it down:
All games on the XBOX are either,

2. Suck

PS2:

+ Many Many Games in the first place
+ Most of the games have great gameplay
+ Internet Multiplayer

- PS3 is commin soon
X-Box:
+ Great gfx
+ Some good games
+ Internet multiplayer
+ Based on Realistic gfx
- Not many game selection
- Most games are better on other systems
- Most games concentrate on gfx not gameplay
- Some games have legal issues (the Enter the Matrix example)
Gamecube:
+ Great gfx
+ gfx based on cartoonie / cell shading
+ Great Party Games

A few comments on these points.
1.First of all the race for the 3rd generation console is still on . Nintendo is hopefully going to be first with their new project N5 [working name as its the 5th nintendo console]. PS3 bring it on!
2. You're wrong there on cel-shading but i can see why you'd think that. The Wind Waker was over-hyped about it but at the end of the day cel-shading is just a "style" , a technique if you want, where you just expand your polygons by a few vertices and add a black outline, i.e. it's as "realistic"/3d as anything else.
3. I really cant find any party games on the cube unless you're referring to Mario Party 5 which is just one title i'm afraid...
Something that noone mentioned so far. The Gameboy player! No need for the gameboy since you can play all gb/gbc/gba games on yr tv set [i know some of the gb games are lame but still you can play some really good rpgs(and i don't mean pokemon) without having to buy the gb-sp]

Well ya its awsome and all but i'd buy SP nonetheless because of the portability. But i have both nehoo.
Also, Most GC games are fun and funner at parties. Like Monkey Ball 2 (sorry to keep bringing up MB2 but its just SO FUN!) well its really really fun normally but then when u get it to a party its just that little bit funner when u and ur friends are laughing and killing ur monkeys. But still theres no real PARTY games for GC only games that are a bit funner with more people and friends.

Social Poison
September 8, 2003, 4:26 pm
1/2: Well BManx... if one is only going to buy one system lets say (and face it... the "hardcore" who own more than one system are a dramatic [less than 10%] amount of the video game population) then you do have to be careful. Not everyone wants to play Animal Crossing type games all the time... so when you purchase a system you have to get one that has enough game diversity to keep you occupied.
That comes down to selection and the PS2 has the other two systems beat hands down (they DID have one hell of a head start after all). You can go from Devil May Cry, to Madden, to Bond, to Xenosaga... whereas GC lacks this diversity by leaning too far toward kid stuff, and X-Box lacks it by leaning too far toward Adult stuff (and realistic).
Nintendo especially has acknowleged that "people won't buy a system just for a single game anymore." For instance they sold an a.ssload of NES units when SMB3 came out (and with good reason I think!). But MOST people won't buy a GC lets say JUST to play SSB:M.
3 - You nailed the problem with the X-Box right on the head.
4 - Down system portablility (or whatever the word is for playing PS1 games on a PS2... that's sooo killer for Used games)
