I was just wondering how powerful the computers that you guys own/play soldat on are. I play soldat on my moms old win98 with a celeron 500mhz and 128 mb of ram, but I'm about to get a new one (not for the internet) with an athlon XP 2800+, 512 mb of ram, and a radeon 9800 pro 128mb. It's coming in a few days :D

one advice muzz, dont buy comps right off the line. Wait half a year, and buy it half price

High 5's to all of you using an AMD processor...they're soooo much better than anything Intel throws up. :)

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (like 1.6 ghz), 768 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 7500 64 MB card, Windows XP Home, a DVD drive and a 50X CD-RW drive. Obviously, some parts have been souped up, while others are a bit older...the comp just celebrated its one year birthday a month ago.

Enjoy

it is ridiculous to have a 1700 mhz processor and 128 mb of RAM

Intel Celeron 633mhz 128 RAM on Win ME with Intel 810i Graphics Chipset and 56K Modem. Pretty pants but it gets the job done, at 75 fps with all options turned up!

Or you had just overcloked it?

yeah right its either OCd or its 3.06 ghz

BMF: I actually have waited for a while for this computer. I'm only paying $1880 for it, with shipping and speakers included. i'm buying from a good nice small company called Gmachines (http://gmachines.com).

When it gets that fast, do you even notice a difference? I see no difference between my computer (1.6 ghz) and my dad's computer (2.4 ghz)...so, do you see a difference in your computer and someone else with a fast computer you know?

It's like comparing two Major League pitchers that can throw a baseball over 150 mph...one gets it going 150, the other 156...I guess those 6 mph's make a bit of a difference, but the batter still has 1/4 of a second to react to the pitch.

Enjoy

this is my "play" computer:

2.4 ghz celeron (overclocked)
ati radeon 7500 64mb sdram with tv out
3 seagate 120 gb 7200 rpm hard drives (i collect movies)
40x/16x/48x cdrw
dvd player
pc-2100 266mhz 512mb ddr memory

and a kds x flat 21 inch monitor

to enjoy...
the 1800 benches at 1.53 ghz, so you were very close. however, if you're the adventurous type, you can easily overclock it to around 1.7 ghz. just need to change a couple of bios settings (if you have a good motherboard that will support it) and stack another fan on top to keep it extra cool.

and while you're right about not "seeing" very much difference between a 1.6 and a 2.4, trust me, when microsoft sends out another bloatware application of windows, then you'll see a major difference. plus, right now, game manufacturers pretty much build around the 750mhz to 1.0 ghz range, but just like everything else in the comp world, things will change, and when they do you'll be glad to have something bigger to handle it all.

and i mostly do agree about amd having better processors. the only thing that amd really falls behind intel is in the mhx department. amd could use some real improvement there. and the fact that they run about 20 degrees cooler than intel's does make them a better choice. amd is what i normally run, but this last time i put a system togther i actually got a celeron chip at half the price of an amd, so i switched for a while and (so far) haven't been disappointed.

lol ony :)

Mine is this...

AMD Athalon (Barton) 2600+ (2140MHz)
MSI K7N2 Delta Motherboard
ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128MB AGP8x (PowerColor)
512MB DDR400 running 128bit dual channel
Twin 60GB HDDs (not RAID)
Creative Sound Blaster Live!

And enjoy - "When it gets that fast, do you even notice a difference? I see no difference between my computer (1.6 ghz) and my dad's computer (2.4 ghz)...so, do you see a difference in your computer and someone else with a fast computer you know?"

The reason for this (lol) is because the 2.4GHz is a Pentium 4 and they suck ass :P

Seriously... :)

AMD Athlon XP 3000
512 MB RAM
GeForce4 Ti 4600 128MB
120 GB HD x 1 (OS, games, programs, etc)
60 GB HD x 2 (MP3s, Video, porn, etc)

I couldnt find a picture of the exact case, but it looks kinda like this one but with a simpler front and the window is smaller. http://www.tigerdirect.com/images/SKUimages/medium/blue.jpg

Hey what is better.
AMD Athlon or Intel Pentium?

morpheus
August 31, 2003, 9:08 am
my personal preference is amd. amd processors tend to run about 20 degrees cooler than intel's, and they're quite a bit cheaper.

intel's mhx architecture is hands down the best, but other than that, intel really doesn't have anything on amd.

palloco
August 31, 2003, 9:37 am
I do not really know if AMD is better than Intel (obviously taking the cost into account AMD is much better), what I know is that Celeron and Duron suck.
The better is to wait a little more and buy an Athlon 64 once they have a good motherboard and stability... or wait till it is launched to buy a classic athlon xp very cheap.
Btw the best one is my K6-III 400,256 Mb, Voodoo 3 3000 ;)

EI - it doesnt make your comp go faster (i think u know that) but it for example the 3.6 Ghz chip was designed to make the comp run smooth even while its burning cd's (that works) ;P

and yea muzzstah, its 3600 Mhz which means 3.6 Ghz not 3.06
they didnt make 3.06 ghz yet
3.6 > 3.06

everyone here who owns an amd athlon XP that doesnt restart by it self is lucky, coz for some GAY [:-censored]ed reason, my amd athlon XP 2000+ 256Mb ram, with a GeForce 2 Ti, seems to just [:-censored] up, and restart by it self, and it frezzes loads, its pissign me of, and i cant take it anymore, does anyone know why? my computer is hella noisy, its just like a vaccum cleaner, (u should see the size of its fan) does myc omputer restart by it self and freeze a lot because of the ammount of ram i have?

Eyic, does it happens with your computer after formatting it, had you downloaded the fix to blaster worm?
The RAM is no problem... unless you have different types of RAM inserted or it is incompatible. Check that the motherboard is compatible with everything you has and maybe try changing it for one that it is good, for example Asus A7N8X.The motherboard is the most imporatnt of a computer. It does not matter what else you have, ussually a motherboard of less than 80 $ will make you r computer sux.

Yup, mobo is very important :)

And thus I got an MSI K7N2 Delta nForce 2 Ultra 400

muzzmastah
September 23, 2003, 12:51 am
yeah same as palloco, got an A7N8X mobo DELUXE baby yeah :P
there is a large number of things you can do to fixxorz yu0r suxX0rz pC eyic:
1. a question: has your motherboard/processor ever been OC'd? (overclocked) cuz if it has, then you just need to get a new processor or mobo or both. I reccomend, as palloco and NC said, some variable of the nforce 2 chipset, my Asus one is nice, and comes with some leet software and integrated ethernet/networking ports/serial IDE RAID shizzo. its cool. price $125 american (dont know what the hell you australian ppl use =P)
2. Just get a/some new case/CPU fan(s). The Vantec Stealth models are supposed to be quiet, and I think they come in all different sizes. price 9-18 US$, varying with size
3. get a new CPU. the athlon XP models vary quite a bit in price, and I *think* that most if not all are compatible with the Z7N8X.

maybe that helped :D
