What are in your oppinion the best windows applications and apps that you consider essential?
Antivirus: I had tried some, Mcafee tried to ruin my comp, Norton now asks for explorer 5.5sp2(Why would an antivirus need the explorer?). It seems the best option is AVG 6.0 free edition, it does not drain resources from your comp.
Picture viewer: AcdSee 2.1, each new version is worst than the previous, I wish I had the 1.0
Photo modifications: Paint Shop Pro (I use 6.0beta)
Compressors: Winrar
Pdf: Ghostcript with Ghost viewer
Navigator: Mozilla 1.5
P2P: Kazaa and Bittorrent
Donwload:DAP 5.0
Diskdata: Small app to see how much space is occupied by directories
Rename4u: To rename several files at once
Isobuster: To see several types of ISOs

NO KAZAA, Kazaa LITE.
eDonkey2000
AltDesk manage multiple desktops, easily switch through them etc, very useful for multitaskers.
Joe - renaming files with counter etc.
Winace (Ace, Zip, Rar)
DUmeter displaying network bandwidth, d/l u/l, dialup time, daily/weekly/etc transfer, stop timer etc. very nice
And I totally agree with the new ACDsee versions. Loads really slow.. I like the old versions for being VERY fast (I don't want to wait 3 seconds just to see one 100*100 jpeg).

Antivirus: I don't care 'cause Anti-virus don't really protect but F-secure is the best

Browsers- Mozilla, Opera, Ghostzilla, and MSIE just cause most crap is only compatible with it :p

Interesting programs out there. By what I tested Winrar is the fastest compressor, but it may be different with other files/comps.
ffdshow, Yeah, forgot to add this, the best codec out there combined with BSplayer
I am looking how good are them, but for example optimization programs like Alto memory booster just decrease the performance of my comp :/.
NC, Eyedropper is the program to know the composition of the colours is your screen? Essential program :)
Emo, what version of Red Hat are you using? It seems that like ACDSee each new version is slower than the previous, or maybe it is becuz of the new xwindows managers.
Is not Knoppix too slow?

Antivirus: Nothing, they all suck.....I dont use a virus scanner because I dont need one. Macaffee is horrible, Norton is a resource Hog with to many start up programs. uhhhg nothing is simple.
Picture viewer: Windows XP (does a fine job)
Photo modifications: PhotoShop 7 (Paint Shop Pro Sucks a$$ If I want the best of the best ill use PhotoShop).
Compressors: Winzip (Meh it works)
Pdf: Adobe Acrobat (Pdf is stupid)
Navigator: IE Explorer (Simple and intergrated into Windows)
P2P: Kazaa Lite (No spyware)
Donwload: IE
Ad Stopper: Pop Up stopper (Simple program)

Hmm... you got me there, 7-zip is not the fastest (indeed its a bit slow) but it certainly has the best compression ratio than anything else. So for those of us who want to save some bandwith [cuz i doubt anyone's trying to save HDD space :p] its the best option.
