I havent really figured out how version numbers work.....instead of calling it 1.2.0c why dont they just call it soldat 1.2 and every release it goes up by 1? last version should of been called 1.1? why was 1.5 named 1.1.5? Was the first version of soldat called 0.1?

What is with the letters? I know theres a reason but I cant figure it out.

HELP SPITZ CONFUSED!!1111111111oneoneoneoneeleven!!!

Heres a little version history:

1.1.1
1.1.2
1.1.3
1.1.4
1.1.5
1.1.6 (well...what WOULD have been..)

Notice the numbers go up by 1 every time in the last digit place...and for first wersion, 1, it is really 1.0.0. Soldat 1.2 is 1.2.0. As for the letters I can't help you.

k why is it 1.1.5 and not just 1.5?

1.1.1
1.1.2
1.1.3
1.1.4
1.1.5
1.1.6
1.1.7
1.1.8
1.1.9
1.2.0
1.2.1
1.2.2
1.2.3
and on and on and on....

Right?

after 1.1.5, this newest version is so different than the others, that michal's gone ahead and decided to call it "1.2.0". its basically to show aboot how different a version is from its perdeccessor...1.1.5 wasnt that different from 1.1.4, but 1.1.5 and 1.1.6 are soooo different, that its going to be put up several jotches and called 1.2.0 . got it? basically this is all version 1, but this is the next level of it. the rest have been version 1.1.X.......k, now im confuzzed o_O

i can tell u that the version number is up to the creator to choose
so its up to him ;)
and the letters i think are:
b = beta (hard to guess it right?)
a = there aint such thing, this is supposed to be the alpha... alpha is supposed to be the one to be released... which will be called 1.2 as u know...
c = is also an equivalent to some greek letter i cant think of right now...

anyway, im just guessin all this stuff from general knowledge of nothing.
feel free to correct me if u know the correct answer :D

1.1.5 isnt 1.5. Here's why:

First version was called 0.9c or something. After that series came the 1.0.#b series which preceeded the series we are on now. The series that preceeded the current one ranged from 1.0.0b to 1.0.5b. After that there was version 1.1 and then 1.1.1, then 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4 and finally the version we are playing right now- 1.1.5. You cant call it 1.5 because that would be 4 series from now. Since Michal saw that 1.1.6 is going to be too big to belong in with 1 series of versions, he named it 1.2 and started the next series with it. 1.2 means 1.2.0 if you will, and if a patch comes after it it will be called 1.2.1... And so on.

Well lets see.. The version numbers are incremental, in other words 0.8 0.9 1.0 1.05 1.10 1.11 ect..

The letters now mean its a "beta" or test version... I'm gonna assume thats what they always ment.

So 1.2 will come after 1.2b 1.2c 1.2d whatever. 1.2b is the first beta, 1.2c is the second beta, I'm guessing a third beta would be named 1.2d and a fourth would be 1.2e then the final release of 1.2 will probably be just 1.2 meaning its not a beta.

Soldat x.y.z(w)

x - major version number
y - major update
z - minor update
w - beta update (a letter)

Michal sure came up with a complicated system for naming version numbers

wouldnt it be easyer to just make it:

0.1
0.2
0.3
...
0.9
1.2

etc..

CardBoardWarrior

What's your problem?
One reason is that he doesn't want to end up with big numbers like "Soldat 12.5"

Who cares? Some programs use even more "complicated" (ahahaha) version numbers.
e.g. DUmeter 3.05 Build 148

"Petition: CHANGE TEH WAY VERSION NUMBERZ WORK~!"

What do you mean?

Spitzfiya could you make your signature a bit smaller? Just put those pics next to each other or something.

"What do you mean?"
Right-click on the pic and view the properties. Read the URL and go to that domain (www.danasoft.com).
... go there and read this: "You're probably here because of my signature."

Poof! You found out how to do that yourself.
If you want to know how you program something like that, that's something different.
