Why do you want to use a gamepad for soldat?
That's what I thought.

Even if it was possible to use a game pad, your aiming would be so slow that you would die before you even got the cursor on the enemy.

And what are you gonna do with your gamepad online?
There so many good aiming guys out there, and they're gonna kick your behind with your gamepad. You have to aim fast and think fast in Soldat. Gamepads are just not made for this game...

I don't think it's a bad idea, as long as the pad has an analogic thingy.. try checking for the pad drivers, they should have a function to assign the pad keys to keyboard keys.

but its fact thet NO analog stick can fight the preciousness of a mouse

systemfeind: depends which mouse, i'd take an analogic stick for most of the mouses they produce today.

it's something you've gotta get used to i suppose. i've pretty muched mastered playing at soldat with my laptop's touchpad. although it is true that i kick much more arse with a mouse.

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't wondered about using a gamepad with the analog sticks on Soldat before. It'd just be something a little different to try.
Touch-pad Soldat is HARD! You're my hero Llama. [;)]

touch pad soldat is very hard...i've tried it on my lappy at work...omg...that is insane...i could barely get one kill...it was rather depressing...laptops are not made for soldating...i suppose if you got used to it, it might be a bit easier...
as for the game pad...mice are faster than analog, think halo...xbox ppl vs compy ppl...best on each side...mousers would win hands down...its just a ton easier...haven't you noticed why console FPS games are easier when ported to PC?
no offense to your skill level or anything...but im sure there are enough if not too many challenges for you out there...i don't really think you need to go out of your way just to add another one...honestly speaking, unless you are undoubtedly the utter BEST soldat player, then there maybe some logical reasoning behind adding another challenge to soldat, but judging from your sig...i dont think you need any additional challenges with the gamepad...if you want a challenge...i suggest you play against some people in the following clans...(im western, so i wont list any euros since i dont really know any), nv, jinx, s/0, |A|, etc etc...the list goes on...i'm sure they'll give you a run for your money.
but if you want to be suicidal and want to get owned by "Soldier" faster than you can type /mercy before you respawn...im sure there are drivers for your gamepad and some software that'll help you configure keys for soldat...assuming it is a decent gamepad.
oh yeah...and another thing...if you want some sort of a challenge...consider not using the barret, which i know you do...it'll prove slightly more difficult.

if the pad did have a analog stick it should be ok. Really you just need to move it up and down moving it left and right is just for facing another direction.

gamepads for the computers are best for racing, and platformer games. not shooters, of any type

I wouldn't reccommend it for Soldat but I do know of a program that would help with Gamepad support.
http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA016823/joytokey/english.html
It converts mouse/keyboard to gamepad.
I use it for everything EXCEPT Soldat. It's just too hard.

I think most gamepads are perfect for airplane simulators like..
uhhh.. Red Ace?
i dont know which but most flying games would work good with a gamepad..
as long as the list of controls isnt too long
a shoot 'em up game like soldat has soo many controls, if you wanted to tell your friend or enemy somthing,
you would need to reach over for the keyboard.
also theres the whole slow aiming thing :x

Actually, when I play Soldat, I usually use voice if I'm playing with clan members, I dont talk as much, sometimes it makes the game boring because people whine, or just talk and thats not the reason for soldat. So i think that it would work good for me, but I dont really care. I use the Gamepad for Halo, Flight Unlimited, Re-Volt, and others...
