I'm trying to figure out what the sectors do in the map file, are they just used for collision, or faster poly drawing??

Predator made Soldat? So that's why I'm so addicted to it... I've been bred by an ancient barbarian civilization to enjoy 2d action shooters like soldat. Everything's piecing together.

Now all I need to know is where in the heck n00bface came from. Those ugly english folks are all alike.

This is how I explained it to Arenth, in case someone wants to know too:

The map is divided in sectors to optimize collision detection. Instead of checking every single polygon on the map for collision, the game checks only the polygons that are near the player or bullet.
That's why there are sectors, which divide the map in a grid. Each rectangle (an element of the grid) has information about what polygons are in it, so if a player or bullet is inside the rectangle the game checks collision only for these polygons.
