Once this beta is over, you should really come play with us all once a week or something Michal :( come and hang around in #soldat.beta and arrange a few private games etc.

You never know, we might even make you a semi-good player >:D

I think we should have one more slaughter just before this beta testing is over, what do y'all think?

It'd be nice.

Can't make it ;_;

So is this IT? I personally think the weapon balance is fun now. I suck with every weapon that means it's balanced :).
If you have anything against please say it now.

I would like the chainsaw to have 50 ammo. And that's pretty much it I think.

grand_diablo
August 3, 2005, 6:24 pm
mmh and maybe increase the chainsaws length a bit (I concur with Spyder on the ammo aswell)

Chakra`
August 3, 2005, 6:31 pm
I concur with the above two posts (although unsure of G_D's suggestion, though it appears sound).

Also, I personally believe the m79 bink should be increased.

Remember 1.2.1? how we binked the barret and increased the power of autos at the same time? We gave autos too much of an advantage by giving them a direct increase in power and other weapons a weakness.

In this version we've given autos less accuracy and thus less-able to cause bink, while at the same time reducing the m79's bink. What i'm trying to say is these things add to one another, and i'd hate to see m79 to have too much of an advantage. We don't need a 1 shot weapon taking over the game again.

Cold Fusion
August 3, 2005, 6:35 pm
And at the same time reducing the speed and range of the M79. Don't you forgot that sonny, take your personal vendetta against the M79 elsewhere. :o

Chakra`
August 3, 2005, 6:39 pm
ohhh yeahhhh ...4.5% reduction. Big whoop on the 'nerfing' there.

Michal Marcinkowski
August 3, 2005, 7:21 pm
You've got a point there, maybe I can change it.

EDIT: Actually I don't think bink does much to the M79. It wasn't a problem for me in 1.2.1 because you can shoot the M79 from different angles before shots hit you. I don't think there is much we can do to the M79 now, people will be still angry with the speed reduction (if they notice it).

yeah, i have something to say:

you all suck for being european and always having these slaughter sessions with MM while i'm working!

that is all, have a nice day :P

It would be a mistake to make changes and rush through the release like last time, as I know you're planning on releasing it tomorrow. There should be no hurry to release without every change being tested (and the LAW bug fixed), especially if you're going to call this version 1.3.0.

Chakra`
August 3, 2005, 7:39 pm
Thats one thing I can agree on. Maybe another week or 5 days of getting used to the balance until we're sure?

Michal Marcinkowski
August 3, 2005, 8:17 pm
I'm not rushing but there isn't nothing left to do without complicating things and waiting another 2 weeks.
The LAW bug is really not a bug from my experience, I don't know why it wasn't there in 1.2.1. The LAW missile explodes on the player from short distance and the trail isn't rendered. It works like this because of lag, that's the place where the missile actually is, if it left the muzzle it would look like it missed.

I think a period of open beta would a good idea, and not just in terms of weapon balance. Creating an open beta version just for public release might help us narrow down and pin any other bugs there may be. I could create a topic in the Need Help? section of the forum for beta bug reports/complaints just for this purpose and bug reports could be placed there.

What's the difference between open beta and releasing the game to public?

grand_diablo
August 3, 2005, 9:31 pm
an open beta would lead to massive noob whining. -> bad idea.

Better do one or two more slaughter sessions for the final finetuning and then it should be right.

PS: There are some more maps coming up that mit fit ingame *points at ctf_Crashed topic*

Well I just hope we got the balance reasonably set. I think we've done pretty good, something i'm sure we're all mostly agreed on.

I suppose we'll never truly know if it's perfect until it's out there and we've gone a month down the line to see what weapons are being 'abused' or what weapons just don't seem to cut it.

Michal Marcinkowski
August 4, 2005, 11:42 am
Yes we will never know. But then if it's wrong we can make finetunes with the weapons editor during normal games and for the next version of Soldat bring the perfect weapons.ini.

EDIT:
I'll increase the bink for M79 to 25 in the final version. You can see how it works on the beta server.

nooessss .. :(
Pls don't increase the M79's bink..
it's became a bit unused in the previous weapon since of the bink in tunnels..
so with 25 bink?:o --> even though the Selfbink, it wouldn't help us..
I think it should be as it's been in the last version or even less.. :,(

Meandor
August 4, 2005, 3:18 pm
It is 30 in the current non-beta version Bugs, and it one of the weapons that were less penalized. It is good enough (mind me, m79 is one of the weapons i use the most).
About the LAW: I think delay should be put down to 12~, the knife and the socom get already a big advantage over it as it now.

Chakra`
August 4, 2005, 3:30 pm
has anyone actually gone up against a m79 in the RC with an auto?

it's got 15 bink ...if i didn't know any better i'd of said it had none though, 'cos even after about 3-6 hits with an auto, and even concurrent hits from multiple enemies, i'm getting blasted from 3/4 screen away by very artfully slow moving m79 projectiles.

Chakra`
August 4, 2005, 5:09 pm
(another thing)

we're all also generally agreed that ruger needs to be somewhat nerfed. ( we are agreed, right? )

Me and a few others have come to the preference of a FireInterval of 40, and reload time of 100-115. 250 damage too.

DeMonIc
August 4, 2005, 6:42 pm
Yeah, increase the ruger's FireInterval to 40, reload time to around 105, and the damage should be higher, so it's always 2 hit-kill.
That's done, and the weapon balance will be better than ever.

grand_diablo
August 4, 2005, 6:47 pm
nah, ruger kills shouldnt be always 2 hit kill, it should be possible that it might need 3 hits aswell, on long distance/legs only hits.

Agreed.
That's the way it's now in CF's mod and that's the way I think it should be.

Chakra`
August 5, 2005, 6:47 am
CF's mod is 250 damage. But yeah, that sounds reasonable.
